Who should take the test?

A progesterone deficiency involves a number of unpleasant complaints for the women affected because progesterone has many positive characteristics. Studies show that progesterone is a natural antidepressant, has a calming effect, and can help counteract fears. Additionally, a low progesterone level is often accompanied by depressive moods, fatigue and anxiety attacks. Progesterone also has a natural dehydrating effect and counteracts breast tenderness, it strengthens the immune system, protects the bones, and reduces cravings for sweets.

The test analyzes the morning values of the following hormone:

  • Progesterone

Our Progesterone Test gives you more information about the level of progesterone in your body and allows you to identify the underlying cause for your complaints.

Any Questions?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding this test. Your question is missing? Please contact us at:

Why is progesterone considered the "beauty hormone"?

Progesterone is often referred to as the "beauty hormone" because it is linked to beautiful skin, hair, and overall health. It plays a crucial role in maintaining these aspects of physical appearance.

What are the common complaints associated with progesterone deficiency?

A progesterone deficiency can lead to several unpleasant symptoms, including depressive moods, fatigue, anxiety attacks, and more. Progesterone deficiency can have a significant impact on a woman's overall well-being.

How does progesterone affect mood and mental health?

Studies suggest that progesterone acts as a natural antidepressant and has a calming effect. It can help alleviate fears and improve overall mental health.

What is the difference to a doctor's blood test and why can the results vary significantly?

Blood tests are unable to distinguish the protein-bound (inactive) from the freely available and active hormones and thus give an approximate value. Why is that important? Because the blood values can be within the normal range, but if you look at the active hormones, deficiencies or excesses can also be found. Blood tests also show the hormone levels outside the cells in the serum and do not reflect the other levels in the body where they are actually active.

Why do saliva tests make more sense with transdermal hormone replacement therapy?

If you use transdermal hormones as part of hormone replacement therapy (i.e. absorbed through the skin), blood values are not accurate for the check. This is because hormones once absorbed into the blood through the skin bind to the red blood cell membranes to minimize adverse interactions with the aqueous plasma, since most hormones "love fat" and thus prefer to bind to fats. As soon as your blood sample is taken, it is usually centrifuged and the red blood cells together with the hormones are removed before analysis. This phenomenon has been described by Stanczyk et al. (2005) for transdermal progesterone but it also seems to occur to a small extent for all other hormones as well. Even after using transdermal progesterone for several weeks, blood serum tests do not show a strong increase in the level of progesterone, while saliva tests show an increase after only a few hours. This can be a problem when monitoring progesterone levels while using transdermal hormone creams.
