FSH is a hormone linked to the reproductive system in both men and women. In females, its primary role is overseeing the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles, which, in turn, produce estrogens and progesterone to regulate the menstrual cycle. When estradiol levels on the third day of the menstrual cycle naturally inhibit FSH, having relatively low FSH levels within the normal range, along with typical day 3 estradiol levels, signifies a healthy ovarian reserve (indicating good egg quality and quantity) and normal fertility potential for one’s age.

Conversely, slightly elevated FSH levels, combined with heightened LH levels, indicate a compromised ovarian reserve (reduced egg quantity and quality) typically associated with the natural aging process, potentially reducing the chances of a successful pregnancy. In women with naturally declining ovarian reserve and diminished ovarian function, elevated FSH levels often lead to increased estradiol levels as well. In premenopausal women, elevated FSH levels alongside heightened estradiol may also hint at the presence of functional cysts, which generally do not impact fertility and usually resolve on their own. Slightly elevated FSH levels can also be linked to factors such as stress or being underweight.

What exactly is the Ovarian Reserve Test, and what does it measure?

The Ovarian Reserve Test is a helpful tool that measures the level of FSH (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone) in your blood on the third day of your menstrual cycle. This test provides valuable information about your egg quantity.

What is included?

The test kit includes everything you need: a sample instruction, sample collection components and a bag for free return shipment. The scientific analysis by a CLIA-certified lab and a laboratory report via secure web portal is included in the price.

When do I have to do the test?

Once you get your test kit, take the sample on the third day of your menstrual cycle, and send it back to our CLIA certified lab via the prepaid shipping envelope included in the kit.

When does a cycle start?

By definition, the menstrual cycle begins with the first day of bleeding.

How do I know when I am ovulating?

You can determine the right time using various methods, such as the cervical mucus. But it also works mathematically: first determine the average cycle length of your last 3 cycles. Let's say your last 3 cycles were 26, 28 and 30 days long, then the average cycle length is 28 days. Ovulation usually occurs 14 days before your next period. That means that, in this example, the expected ovulation falls on day 14 (28-14).
