The NAD+ Test measures the level of Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide in your body, a key coenzyme essential for energy production, DNA repair, and cellular health. This simple home-to-lab test helps evaluate biological age, mitochondrial function, and risks for age-related diseases, as NAD+ levels typically decrease with age.

Details
Who should take the test?

The NAD+ test is recommended for individuals who want to monitor their biological age and evaluate their risk for age-related diseases. It is especially beneficial for older adults or those experiencing symptoms such as fatigue or poor sleep, which may indicate reduced mitochondrial function.

The test is also valuable for anyone considering starting NAD+ supplementation or significant lifestyle modifications like diet changes or increased physical activity. Before taking the test, individuals with underlying health conditions or those taking prescription medications should seek advice from a healthcare provider. This test can provide a useful baseline for measuring the impact of health interventions on NAD+ levels over time.

How does it work?

Once your order has been processed, you will be sent a blood sample collection kit. You collect your sample from the comfort of your own home and send it right back to our CLIA-certified partner laboratory. We analyze your sample and inform you that your results have been uploaded to your confidential account on our secure website.

What guidance will I get along with my results?

Following the completion of the analysis, you will receive a lab report that includes explanations for the analyzed markers and details on potential symptoms linked to imbalances. Additionally, we strongly advise that you discuss the results you receive from us with your healthcare provider or practitioner.

Moreover, additional information can be found on our website, particularly within various test categories, “health conditions,” and the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section. If you have any further inquiries, please feel free to reach out to us by sending an email to contact@verisana.com.

How is my privacy protected?

Samples for our tests are collected in the privacy of your own home. Both we and our partner laboratories (which may be contracted by us to conduct some or all analyses of your test) take customer privacy very seriously.

You will be the sole person with access to this information, and we guarantee that we will not disclose your information to any unauthorized third parties. Additionally, all samples will be disposed of after analysis. Both our Verisana portal for registering kits and receiving results as well as our CLIA-certified partner laboratories are fully HIPAA-compliant.

Test measures
For the NAD+ Test we analyze:
  • Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+)
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+)

NAD+ is essential for energy metabolism, predominantly located in mitochondria where it is crucial in synthesizing ATP, our energy currency. Factors such as age, gender, genetics, and lifestyle choices, including diet and exercise, can affect NAD+ levels. There are no established “normal” levels for NAD+ that apply universally to specific ages due to its broad variability.

Elevated levels of NAD+ are associated with enhanced metabolic health, increased energy production, and a reduced risk of age-related diseases.

Conversely, lower levels of NAD+ may indicate diminished mitochondrial efficiency, potentially leading to symptoms like fatigue, poor sleep, and decreased physical performance, since NAD+ is integral to both energy metabolism and cellular repair.

You can boost NAD+ levels through approaches like supplementation with NAD+ precursors, calorie restriction, intermittent fasting, regular physical activity, and potential dietary modifications. However, it’s recommended to consult a healthcare professional before beginning NAD+ supplements or major lifestyle alterations, particularly if you have pre-existing health conditions or are on medication.

Monitoring changes by retesting NAD+ levels after implementing these strategies can help determine if there has been an improvement. Keeping NAD+ levels optimized may also aid in preserving cognitive function, muscle strength, and longevity, enhancing overall vitality as you age.

Symptoms
Symptoms the NAD+ Test is suitable for:

Any Questions?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding this test. Your question is missing? Please contact us at:

What is NAD+ and why is it important?

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a vital coenzyme found in all living cells that plays a critical role in energy metabolism and cellular functions such as DNA repair and maintaining cellular health. It's essential for converting food into energy and influences various body systems, including the immune and nervous systems. As we age, NAD+ levels naturally decline, which is linked to age-related diseases and reduced physical function.

Who should consider taking the NAD+ test?

The test is recommended for individuals interested in monitoring their biological age and determining their risk for age-related diseases. It is especially beneficial for older adults or anyone experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, poor sleep, or a decrease in cognitive functions, which may indicate lower NAD+ levels.

How often should I take the NAD+ test?

The frequency of testing depends on your health goals, age, and initial results. Typically, it might be beneficial to retest every 6-12 months to monitor how your NAD+ levels change in response to lifestyle adjustments, dietary changes, or supplementation. However, discussing your specific situation with your healthcare provider can provide more personalized advice.

How does the NAD+ test work?

The NAD+ test involves a simple at-home blood sample collection. After you order the test, we'll send you a kit with detailed instructions on how to collect your sample properly. Once you've collected your sample, you send it back to our CLIA-certified partner laboratory using the prepaid envelope included in the kit.

I am not getting enough blood from my finger, what can I do?

Prepare the blood draw well: Hold your hand a little longer under warm water and circle your arm to stimulate blood circulation. Prick the finger on the side, not directly on top of the fingertip. The middle or ring finger of the non-dominant hand is usually best. When piercing, place your finger on a firm surface to avoid unconscious pulling back. A light squeeze and massage towards the fingertip helps stimulate blood flow.
