Who should take the test?

The Candida & Helicobacter & Zonulin test is recommended for all people who want to know how the function and health of their intestines and stomach are.

About a third of people have candida in their body. Candida is usually harmless but can spread and cause candidosis if the immune system or the gut is weakened. Helicobacter pylori is the most common chronic bacterial pathogen in humans. It lowers stomach acid levels while damaging the mucosal protection within the stomach. It has therefore been attributed with causing stomach and duodenal ulcers. Zonulin is a protein molecule, which helps diagnosing the so called “Leaky Gut Syndrome”, as it gives an indication of the permeability of the gut mucosa. With our Candida & Helicobacter & Zonulin Test you can check for all 3 things with just a single sample.

How does it work?

You collect the samples at home, send them back to us and we will provide you with your level of each marker and whether your level falls within the reference ranges for your age. In addition to that, the results include graphs showing whether your are in the “green” (=normal/healthy) or “red” (=too high/low) area, making it easy to understand the results.

What guidance will I get along with my results?

After the analysis was conducted, you will receive a lab report with explanations about the analyzed markers as well as information about possible symptoms that can occur when there is an imbalance. Further to that, we always recommend the discussion of the mailed results with your doctor or practitioner.

Although we do not offer medical advice ourselves, we will gladly assist you in finding a suitable therapist in your area. Besides, further information is available on our website, especially in the different test categories, under “health conditions” and the FAQs. Still have questions? Then you can contact us by writing an email to contact@verisana.com.

How is my privacy protected?

Samples for our tests are collected in the privacy of your own home. We and our partner laboratories (who may be contracted by us to conduct some or all analyses of your test) take customer privacy very seriously. Only you will have access to this information and we will not share your information with any not authorized third party. All samples are disposed of following analysis.

Test measures
For the Candida & Helicobacter & Zonulin Test we analyze:
  • Candida albicans
  • Candida spec.
  • Geotrichum spec.
  • Mold
  • Helicobacter pylori
  • Zonulin
Candida albicans

The genus Candida is comprised of approximately 200 different species. Candida albicans is the most common strain of them. It is a normal part of the gut flora and most people have some level of Candida albicans in their intestines. But a combination of factors can lead to an overgrowth, which then leads to several undesirable symptoms including fatigue, weight gain, joint pain, and gas.

Candida spec.

Increased candida species indicates deficiancies in colonisation resitance, disturbances of the intestinal flora and or a defect mucosa. Candida species may burden the body with toxic metabolites. Some patients respont to even low rates of yeast overgrowth.

Geotrichum spec.

Geotrichum belongs to the Endomyceteaceae family. This organism can be found in soil, dairy products and in human skin and mucosae. Symptoms of Geotrichum infection have been associated with diarrhea and enteritis.

Mold

An infection with mold can have many reasons. Possible causes are things like corticosteroid therapy, stress, diabetes, malnutrition or birth control pills. All of them weaken the immune system and a weakened immune system cannot control mold or help you get rid of it. Antibiotics are also a common cause of mold infection because they destroy the good bacteria that keep it under control.

Helicobacter pylori

Infestation with helicobacter pylori is considered as the most common cause of gastritis and may also contribute to the development of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It lowers stomach acid levels while damaging the mucosal protection within the stomach. Helicobacter pylori bacteria pass through the mouth into the body and subsequently into the stomach, where they colonize the gastric mucosa.

Zonulin

Zonulin is a protein molecule, which helps diagnosing the so called “Leaky Gut Syndrome”, as it gives an indication of the permeability of the gut mucosa.

Any Questions?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding this test. Your question is missing? Please contact us at:

What does "Leaky Gut" mean?

"Leaky Gut" means "permeable intestine". The intestinal mucosa forms a natural barrier. It absorbs nutrients from food, but keeps harmful substances away. If the intestinal mucosa is damaged, it can no longer perform this task. In addition nutrients, toxins, metabolic products, etc. enter directly into the organism and can cause various kinds of complaints.

What are the symptoms of a "Leaky Gut"?

The symptoms of the so-called "leaky gut" can be very different. In addition to gastrointestinal complaints, typical complaints include exhaustion, food intolerances, frequent infections, skin problems, depression or joint and muscle pain. In addition, there are often various deficiency symptoms in the long term because nutrients can no longer be properly absorbed.

How do Candida infections develop?

Candida is everywhere around us and usually also present in small numbers in our intestines. However, the immune system and our gut bacteria prevent it from spreading. If the intestine is weakened, for example when the "good" intestinal bacteria have been decimated by antibiotics, the fungus can multiply unhindered.

How can candida be treated?

Depending on how strong the infection is and where it is located, different treatment options are possible. However, it is always important to strengthen the intestinal flora at the same time so that it can prevent future infections itself. An intestinal flora analysis can be useful for clarification.

What does helicobacter pylori have to do with stomach cancer?

Infections with helicobacter pylori are considered the most common cause of gastritis and can also contribute to the development of gastric and duodenal ulcers. It is therefore important to recognize and treat an infection quickly.

What is the advantage of a stool test for the diagnosis of helicobacter pylori?

The stool test offers the advantage of a non-invasive diagnosis. Alternatively, for example, a gastroscopy with testing of the gastric mucosa would be possible. However, this means much more stress for the patient and is significantly more unpleasant. A stool test should therefore always be the first choice if possible.

What treatment options are there for helicobacter?

Conventional medical treatment primarily relies on antibiotics to fight the infection. The disadvantage is it causes damage to the intestinal flora, which may lead to other complaints. In naturopathy, broccoli extract is therefore increasingly used as an alternative. It contains sulforaphane, a phytochemical that has been shown to weaken bacteria such as helicobacter pylori.
