Who should take the test?

Most Sexually Transmitted Diseases do not show symptoms, making it possible to be infected and not know it. Did you know that if you have one STD, you may have multiple STDs?

Our Basic STD Test is taken in the privacy of your own home and covers 3 common sexually transmitted diseases:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Trichomoniasis

Our Basic STD Test is for any man who is sexually active. Men with risk factors such as new or multiple sex partners, or a sex partner who has a sexually transmitted infection, need testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis every year. For a comprehensive overview of your STD status, we recommend our Standard STD Test. This test measures 7 common viral and bacterial infections (the mentioned STDs + HIV, Hepatitis C, Syphilis and Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2).

How does it work?

You collect the urine sample, send it back to us and we will provide you with information about your STD status. If you test positive, you should talk to a doctor about treatment options to avoid passing an infection to a partner.

What guidance will I get along with my results?

After you get tested, it’s important for you to find out the result of your test so that you can talk to a doctor about treatment options if one or several of the tested STDs were detected. Still have questions? Then you can contact us by phone at (703) 722 6067 (08:00am – 11:30am EST) or mail at contact@verisana.com. Please note that we reserve the right to collaborate with certified partner laboratories.

How is my privacy protected?

Our STD tests are taken in the privacy of your own home. We and our partner laboratories (who may be contracted by us to conduct some or all analyses of your test) take customer privacy very seriously. Only you will have access to this information and we will not share your information with any not authorized third party. All samples are disposed of following analysis.

Test measures
For the Basic STD Test for Men we analyze:
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Trichomoniasis
Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia can be transmitted through sexual contact and generally shows no symptoms. Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States, with about 4 million new cases diagnosed every year. It can cause serious, permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system. This can make it difficult or impossible for a woman to get pregnant later on. Chlamydia can also cause a potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy that occurs outside the womb).

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is transmitted through sexual contact and is most commonly asymptomatic in women. Gonorrhea can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. If not treated, gonorrhea is associated with complications that may result in infertility. There is a high prevalence of co-infection with chlamydia and an increased susceptibility to HIV.

Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is caused by infection with the protozoan parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. Trichomoniasis is transmitted through sexual contact. Women who are infected are more likely to develop symptoms than men. Symptoms usually include a foul-smelling discharge, genital itching and pain during urination or sexual intercourse. Complications are rare, although trichomoniasis in pregnancy can be linked to pre-labor rupture of membranes, preterm delivery and low birth weight. Untreated trichomoniasis can increase the risk of HIV infection.

This test is worth the price! Very important parameters are being measured. Next time I might do the Standard STD test to get an even more comprehensive picture. I’ll see.

Any Questions?

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding this test. Your question is missing? Please contact us at:

Why should I get tested for STDs?

STDs can affect anyone. However, they often go unnoticed due to missing or ambiguous symptoms. That is why it is important to be tested regularly. This is the only way to avoid that an untreated infection leads to long-term damage. It is everyone's responsibility to prevent the spread of STDs. By getting tested, you're doing your part while keeping yourself healthy.

How often should I get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should be tested for STDs on a regular basis. How often this has to happen depends on how active you are and whether you are currently outside a monogamous relationship. Depending on the risk category, you should get tested every 3-12 months. An annual test is the minimum and the test should be done more often if you have unprotected sex with a new partner.
